Metamora - Among the Hills

Metamora is nestled between the Town of Oxford and the City Lapeer in South Lapeer County. Its charming downtown area is located just East of M-24 (Lapeer Road) on Dryden Road. Home owners and buyers are particularly attracted to the Metamora area because of its close proximity to Oakland County and I-75, while benefiting from Lapeer County's appealing tax base.

While meandering down the natural country roads, be sure to wave "hello" to the many horse enthusiasts as they take a ride in "horse country". The Metamora Hunt region is world renowned for its fox and fowl hunt clubs.

History

Metamora Hunt - Peter Gilles - Metamora PhotoMetamora is a Native-American name meaning "among the hills". Metamora is also, the name of an American Indian hero, son of Massosoit, a play popular in the east in the 1840s.

A station on the Detroit & Bay City Railroad in 1885, Metamora was first settled by Eber Barrows who built an inn in 1843, now known as the "White Horse Inn". The "White Horse" is well known in the area for great food and friends in a delightful historic atmosphere.
